The North Face – Exploration convertible trousers (women’s)

TNF trousers

Review by Patsy Lourens

I’ve worn plenty of convertible trousers over the years, but TNF have taken things a step further with the new Explorations.
Manufactured from durable water repellent nylon stretch fabric, these trousers have a nice ‘hugging’ close fit, with a slightly higher than normal waist. This, coupled with a belt closure through its diagonal belt loops and back belt tunnel, and front snap button fly closure, the trousers stay fitting well throughout the day, whether hiking or climbing. None of this dropping around the hips stuff, which is really irritating! And the stretch fabric gives it a greater range of motion for improved comfort.
Cool in hot conditions and warm enough in cold conditions, the Explorations work well in the hills throughout the year, particularly with their quick drying properties, and what I really like is the roll up system that can expose your ankles for extra ventilation.
Of course, as it hots up, then you can convert them into shorts by zipping off the legs completely, and one of the legs has a concealed storage pocket for stashing both legs for ease of packing. Quite nifty, I thought.
The Explorations come with two standard hip pockets, as well as two back pockets. It also has a small concealed pocket on the side near the top of the right leg, for secure storage for your phone and such like.
A pair of trousers for all seasons in South Africa, and great for all mountain disciplines!
