What can I say? Another exquisite product from the BD stables. There so many nice things about this helmet, I don’t know where to start. It is so compact, light and comfortable, that while climbing a route the other day, I thought I’d left my helmet behind on the previous stance, but after a quick check found that it was actually on my head.
The Vision is the most durable foam helmet in the Black Diamond line-up. It features an EPP foam, EPS foam puck, and ABS shell, which combined, offers seriously good head protection, and together with the cutting-edge MIPS (Multidirectional Impact Protection) technology, the Vision is a ‘next level’ piece of kit.
The MIPS system is designed to add protection against the rotational motion (or kinematics) transmitted to the brain from angled impacts to the head. This added protection system has been proven to reduce the rotational motion when implemented in a helmet by absorbing and redirecting energies and forces otherwise transmitted to the brain. This system has proven highly effective in cycling helmets, and has now been adopted by the climbing helmet market.
The Vision is superbly comfortable due in part to its light weight, but mainly to its suspension fitting-harness, removable and changeable foam padding strips along the forehead and top of the scalp, generous and strategically placed ventilation ports, and well placed strapping around the ears and chin. The chin strap also has a very easy-to-use and easy-to-adjust clip.
I love the integrated headlamp clips – they are very low profile and totally out of the way, so don’t snag on over-the-shoulder slings, and the back clip is a highly effective elasticated clip which can house the headlamp buckle if necessary, which is a clever concept, as this is normally where your adjustment buckle will be. And to top it all it is a sleek and very sexy unit. I rest my case!
