Climbing and Hiking in Montagu
Come support the Climb4Hope SA event in Montagu to raise funds for the Sunflower Fund and Donkey & Animal Sanctuaries!
Enjoy a weekend away in this idyllic Breede River Valley setting – climbing and hiking, to raise funds for these very worthy causes.

Venue: De Bos Guest Farm
The event will take place in Montagu over the weekend of the 6 and 7 November 2020, with the actual climbing and hiking day being on Saturday 7th.
All climbers and hikers must register online to receive an event T-shirt, Sunflower Fund Tope and Goodie Bag, together with their sponsorship forms (download), which they can use to raise personal/individual sponsorship.
Saturday the 7th at 8am, all participants and supporters must congregate at De Bos Guest Farm in Montagu to be briefed on the structure of the event.
Saturday morning, hikers will set off on one of the hiking trails around town and teams of climbers (2 in a team) will go to one of the many rock crags in the Montagu area, armed with a climbing score sheet, and climb as many rock climbs as possible to raise funds for these very worthy causes.
Typically a relatively competent team can climb 15 to 20 routes in a day. And a strong hiker can walk between 15 and 20 km in a day
5 PM will be cut-off time and all climbers and hikers will return to De Bos Guest Farm and hand in their scoresheets.
The evening will revolve around a braai and general social gathering, during which there will be speeches from the organisers and sponsors, and there will also be a prize giving ceremony, where climbers and hikers will receive prizes for various achievements during the day. And some spot prizes!
And of course at the end of the evening we will hand over a “cheque” for funds raised to a representative of the Sunflower Fund and the Donkey Sanctuaries.

The Sunflower Fund is a donor recruitment centre and registry. We fight blood diseases like leukaemia through the recruitment of stem cell donors and maintaining a registry of potential donors committed to helping anyone in need of a life-saving stem cell transplant. We fund raise to cover the cost of education and awareness about the need for and the process to become a blood stem cell donor as well as to cover the cost of the HLA tissue-typing test involved in the recruitment of donors. The Sunflower Fund also maintains a patient support fund to assist patients who are unable to afford costs associated with getting to transplant as well as being actively involved in creating a platform for support structures to assist patients, families and communities.
