Yesterday we were fortunate enough to be invited to the media premier of the new 3D EVEREST IMAX movie in Cape Town.
It is the story of the tragic 1996 season on the south side of Everest where Brian Hall and Scott Fischer (among many others) are killed due to some difficult decisions and the onset of a raging storm. Most people will know the story as written by Jon Krakauer in the award winning book “Into Thin Air”. BUT nothing can prepare you for the astonishing 3D visuals, special effects and spectacular mountain scenery on the huge IMAX screen.
The story in the movie runs very much along the actual string of events as it happened nearly 20 years ago. AND unlike most ‘climbing’ movies the climbing and special effects scenes are totally believable, and the acting is first rate with an all star cast including Jake Gyllenhaal, Josh Brolin, Sam Worthington and Keira Knightley.
Mountaineer or not, when this movie opens in the 18th September, you have to go check it out. It will keep you riveted to your seat for nearly 2 hours and you would have to be pretty soulless to come away without at least a slight damp eye.
