When we go camping, I really like to be organized. I like to have the correct tools for the job, and I like nice tools. Ones that do the job well. I’m also a self-confessed camping gear junkie. When I see something nice, I like to sneak it into our camping crates . . .
When Tony came home the other day and said, ‘I think I’ve got something here that you’re going to like,’ I wasn’t expecting a camp kitchen set. But the Alpine Kitchen Set did look pretty nifty, I must admit, so I unrolled it and started checking out the various utensils. My first overall impression was the compact nature of the roll-up pouch and how incredibly light the set was.
It features an assortment of multi-use utensils like the grater that doubles up as a strainer or long spatula, a ladle that can also be used as a measuring spoon with shaped pouring spout, and the spatula also comes with a serrated edge for cutting veggies – simple but effective. The salt and pepper shaker is moisture resistant with tops that seal well, and the cutting board is durable and slides into the pouch, which also acts as a protector for the contents. It also includes two plastic squeeze bottles for dishwashing liquid and such like, a decent-sized super absorbent dishtowel, and a little pouch for your favourite cutting knife. All fitting into a pouch the size of a small loaf of bread.
Suffice to say that the Alpine Kitchen Set is now a firm fixture in our camping arsenal.
