Sizzling Sends: David Wade sends the uber classic ‘Rodan’ (33)

Rodan---David-wade-2019

I first tried Rodan in August 2017 and managed to do all the moves and make some decent link-ups fairly quickly. I thought it would be a short project. The problem with Rodan, however, is even if you can do the moves fairly comfortably, there are not many rests, making it very difficult to link. There is one shake-out as you get onto the headwall and one reasonable shake-out just before the chains, with absolutely no rest in between. This means you have to do most of the headwall with no rests!

Towards the end of 2017, I injured a finger, setting me back a few months. Then, near the end of 2018 I put quite a bit of time into Rodan again. I kept getting to the third (undercling) crux and not having enough power to do the final few moves. So, I decided to give Rodan a long break again and didn’t really go to Boven much during the first half of 2019. Lindie and I spent some time at Fernkloof, plenty time at Choss Pile and did a trip to Oudtshoorn. After our Oudtshoorn trip, we planned to do five consecutive trips to Boven so that we could rebuild our Boven endurance and send our projects (Lindie is working Lotter’s Desire and is so close to sending).
