Lizanne Tucker and Alison Hughes did the first all-women ascent of the Western Cape big-wall classic – Oceans of Fear. Here is their story
We were finally ready, after discussing climbing Oceans of Fear for two years, only to be denied access because of a fire hazard caused by a long dry summer. By Easter weekend we were psyched to be given permission to climb, although we had only a fraction of our previous fitness. We set off with Bill Tucker and Arvind Varsani as willing porters, and Clinton Martinengo and John Terblanche ahead of us going for a free ascent of this magnificent route.
