The Joys of Kilimanjaro

I fidgeted in a socially distanced plastic chair in the Arrivals Lounge, feeling like I was rolling Monopoly dice approaching the ‘Go-directly-to-jail’ square, with more drastic consequences. Having come to view Kilimanjaro’s fabled snows, Mandy Ramsden and I were undertaking obligatory Rapid Antigen tests on arrival, with failures rather spending their trip in a government isolation facility. On receiving the all clear, we proceeded to the more traditional torment of the baggage hall. And when we finally escaped from the terminal with our duffels, we already felt quite jubilant – even though it was overcast, with no sign of Africa’s tallest mountain.
